In January of 1992, Sapporo Beer was revamped as Sapporo Lager Beer. The label retained a traditional design while changing from an elliptical shape to a hexagon. This pasteurized beer dated far back to the Sapporo Lager Beer, which went on sale in August of 1888. In other words, it was a long-selling product that spanned over a century. Since Sapporo bottled beer first went on sale in 1977, what had then been the norm, pasteurized beer, was replaced by this new format. However, it still remains quite popular in restaurants under the moniker “Akahoshi.”
