  • If you are a driver or designated driver (includes bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles) or pregnant or breastfeeding, you may select from a non-alcoholic beer or a soft drink. Driving under the influence of alcohol is prohibited by law.

Handcrafted beer workshop (fees apply)

This workshop lets you try your hand at making beer! Sapporo Beer’s veteran braumeisters will guide you in beer mash preparation and fermentation (up to adding the yeast), all as though you were learning from a cookbook!
Personnel from the brewery handle the fermentation process and steps thereafter and ship your bottled beer to your home a month later. Savor the flavor of handcrafted beer with the whole family.

This event requires registering in advance by mail or web. If there are a large number of applicants, participation will be decided by a raffle.

Eligibility
Persons age 20 and older
  • Note that this program involves taking part in alcohol brewing and is only open to those age 20 and older.
  • Some steps involve use of boiling water and other hazards, so children are not permitted.
  • Given that this workshop will involve long periods of standing on your feet, please ensure that you have the physical capacity to do so.
Capacity
4 groups per session 2-4 people per group
Program
  • Orientation, discussion on beer production methods and handcrafted beer (about 40 minutes)
  • Workshop (6 hours), mash preparation, addition of hops, cooling of wort, and addition of yeast
  • Induction heaters are used to add heat during the brewing process.
  • A lunch break will also be offered.
  • No beer tasting is provided.
  • Personnel from the Nasu brewery handle the fermentation process and steps thereafter. About one month later, bottled beer arrives by courier at the home of the group representative.
  • The workshop will involve producing 24 bottles of 330ml per group.

Note that individuals are prohibited from producing alcohol without license.

Raffle results
Note that if we receive a high volume of applications, participants will be selected by a raffle and notified by mail about the 15th of the month prior to the month of the workshop.
Note that if you entered your address incorrectly and we are unable to contact you, you will be removed from the raffle.
Fee
One group of 2 people: 8,000 (tax inclusive) per person
One group of 3 people: 6,000 (tax inclusive) per person
One group of 4 people: 5,000 (tax inclusive) per person
  • The above rates include lunch, costs for beer production, and shipping costs for your bottled beer.
  • These do not include transit costs to the venue.

Rail Access

Reaching us via Kuroiso

Board a bus bound for Okashi no Shiro from Kuroiso Station on the JR Tohoku Main Line. 2 minutes’ walk from there.

From the bus concourse in front of the station, board a bus bound for either Nasu Yumoto or the Nasu Ropeway.

Note: roads can become heavily congested during the peak travel season.

Reaching us via Nasu Shiobara

Take a rented car or taxi from Nasu-Shiohara Station on the JR Tohoku Main Line or Tohoku Shinkansen. (30 minutes’ travel)

Reaching us via rental car from the station
Take prefectural road #4 to the Otsuka Shinden intersection. From there, take prefectural road #303, and from there head towards Kuroiso to reach prefectural road #55.

Board a bus bound for Okashi no Shiro from Nasu-Shiohara Station on the JR Tohoku Main Line. 2 minutes’ walk from there.
