In May 1977, Sapporo Wine’s Polaire brand suddenly surged in demand. There was a limit on how much the Katsunuma Winery could produce, and it needed to build a second facility. The company quickly began considering candidate sites while taking into account growing demand for wine in western Japan. This led to the selection of a hilly area in Akagi-gun, Okayama Prefecture. In June of 1984, Sapporo Beer’s Okayama Winery was complete.
