The origins of "Yebisu Beer" date back to 1887, when Nippon Beer Brewery started producing beer in the area then called Mita Village. The name "Yebisu" was later adopted in slightly altered form to designate the station, and "Ebisu" has since become familiar to many as the name of the surrounding town.
Yebisu's century-old tradition of brewing beer is now celebrated in a new museum dedicated to the history, science and culture of the beloved beverage. And the museum takes a refreshing approach to its subject, including a "Virtual Brewery" that lets visitors experience the brewing process through a rich multimedia adventure.

This exhibit traces the history of beer in Japan back over a century to the early Meiji Era(1860s). Along with back-ground information on those tumultuous times, displays include authentic equipment salvaged from Sapporo'fs Yebisu Brewery, historical images, and beer labels from the 18th-through earty 19th-centuries. A number of related topics can be further explored with a fun and easy-to-use personal computer system.

The history of beer advertising, including that of Sapporo Beer, is presented through a collection of various media (posters, newspapers and magazines, and TV commercials) and through special seasonal exhibits. See how the different "tastes"of each age are reflected through changes in advertising.

How is beer made? Learn all about the "science of suds" in a fun-filled,
multimedia voyage through the microscopic world of brewing. Equally informative-and just as much fun-are the Museum's dialogue-style video system, as well as personal computers with which visitors can freely look up any number of things about beer.

Various milestones in beer's long and colorful history-a history stretching back over 5,000 years-are recounted in amusing anecdotal style.
Also displayed here are a number of festive beer-drinking scenes from Japan and around the world.

"Immerse" yourself in the beer-making process by touring a production facility through virtual reality. Super-realistic, three-dimensional audio and video make this trip through the brewery a virtual feast for the senses!

Drop by the Lounge to relax and sample some of Sapporo Beer'latest offerings (including seasonal brands) under optimum conditions.
The Lounge also features a display of assorted European beer mugs, indispensable items for enjoying beer.

Valuable relics excavated from the old Yebisu Brewery are displayed on the B3 floor, where the Ebisu area's entire history can be accessed by personal computer. this floor also boasts a video gallery and a scale-model display of Yebisu Garden Place.

Original goods and other souvenirs are sold at the Museum Shop near the entrance.
