For 130 years since our establishment, Sapporo Breweries has been cultivating a variety of research and development of hops and barely, which are indispensable ingredients for beer and happo-shu. To transform R&D results into new business, our agribusiness addresses the development of producing regions, cultivation techniques and new markets.
In the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China, Sapporo Breweries succeeded in growing fine aroma hops without any use of agricultural chemicals, aiming for a stable supply of high-quality ingredients for beer and happo-shu, drawing attention from all over the world. A Japanese-Chinese joint venture of Sapporo Breweries in China accounts for 20% of shipping volume China's expanding beer market, boasting No.1 share. In addition, Sapporo Breweries produces clone plants of Phalaenopsis orchid and Cymbidium, making good use of biotechnology developed in R&D for beer ingredients. The total number of shipments both in Japan and overseas exceeded 1.6 million.

Plant Engineering Business

Leveraging its liquid handling, sanitary and packaging engineering gained in its beer-making activities, Sapporo Breweries provides and delivers plant engineering services to the domestic industries of distilled spirit, sake, wine and other beverages as well as beer makers at home and overseas.In addition, taking advantage of its fermentation technologies, Sapporo have recently been active in the environment-friendly biomass business.
The company responds to customer's requests by designing and building plants "with wide knowledge obtained from food production," "from the viewpoint of manufacturer" and "that can provide food safety and security."
Furthermore, the Plant Engineering Division acquired the quality management system ISO 9001 certification, laying out a framework for providing higher quality engineering services from design to construction.

Distribution Business

Sapporo Breweries consigns its nationwide product distribution to our subsidiary Sapporo Logistics System Co., Ltd. In 2006, the Company started to positively participate in the "Eco-Rail Mark" program launched by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as a means to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the distribution sector and attempts to increase the utilization rate of railway transportation. The company was awarded a "Green Management" certificate, putting further emphasis upon and promoting environment-friendly measures and contributions.
Sapporo Logistic System is committed to reducing CO2 emissions and environmental burdens in the distribution sector through making cargo trucks and shipments larger and conducting joint transportation operations with fellow alcoholic beverage producers across Japan as well as enhancing its logistics quality.
